Mom and I went to 9 months of catechism class.
Learning the faith from the Fathers of the Oratory
Last week was our last RCIA class. Nine months of Monday classes with the Fathers of the Toronto Oratory and 36 locals. It was the biggest blessing of the year.
Mom and I are baptized and confirmed, but we stopped practicing in the 2010s.
We went to learn more about our faith.
Our class was 50% people like us. Then 50% people discerning the Church.
Non-Christians, Protestants, Orthodox. Former atheists and agnostics.
We drove every Monday for 45 minutes to get to 7:30 PM class.
45 minutes class, chat and snack break, 45 minutes class. Chat and hang out after.
Easter Vigil where we welcomed the candidates into the Church.
Then a big barbecue to celebrate after our last class in May.
Mom and I are grateful for the Fathers of the Toronto Oratory, especially Father Alexander and Brother Jeffrey.
Fr. Alexander’s family lived in El Salvador working as missionaries, and he teaches economics in high schools now. Br. Jeffrey quit his Google software engineer career. He is pursuing degrees in theology and philosophy.
Oratorians are known for their teaching. Their RCIA classes run September through May, which they stream via Zoom and post unlisted on YouTube. Send me a message if you wish to join.
